FAQs
Versions
Q. I've recently upgraded to iOS5. How can I restore the Premium/Upgraded version of the app again?
A. As your purchase is linked to your Apple ID, going through the same steps you did to originally purchase the app will restore it to your device free of charge. You should make sure that you are logged in with the same Apple ID that you used to make the original purchase though.
If you downloaded the Premium version of the app without first trying the free version, launch the app store on your iPad and go to the updates section, select 'Purchased' and 'not on this iPad' and scroll through the list until you find the app entry. Click the cloud icon beside this and your purchase will be restored to your device. You must be connected via Wifi to download this.
If you originally downloaded the free version of the app and subsequently upgraded it via in-app-purchase, download the free version of the app (if you haven't already done this) and then just click through as if you are upgrading the app again. You will be notified that you can download again as you have already purchased the item. You will not be charged for purchasing an app you have already purchased as long as you are using the same Apple ID. Again, you must be connected via Wifi to download this due to the application's size.
If you are unsure which method you originally used to purchase the app, then on your device launch the app store, select updates, select purchased - not on this iPad) and search for Atlas. If Atlas Premium doesn't appear in the list, then you upgraded your free version.
Q. What are the main differences between the Free and Premium versions of the app?
A. In the free version of the app, content is limited to all of the information for South America, and maps of Africa. The premium version of the app allows you to view all of the information for Countries, Cities and Regions as well as having full access to maps and fact files.
Bookmarks
Q. How do I return to information at a later date?
A. You can bookmark most information by tapping the star at the top-right of any information panel. You will then be asked if you would like to bookmark this information. To review bookmarked information at a later date, tap the star in the top navigation area and select the appropriate link.
Q. How can I delete a bookmark that I no longer need?
A. There are two ways to remove bookmarks. The first is to open the bookmark panel by tapping the star in the top navigation and click edit. This will allow you to tap the bookmark you would like to delete. The second is quicker and is achieved by clicking the star in the top navigation area to open the bookmark panel, and swiping right over the entry you would like to delete.
Offline browsing
Q. Can the application be used on a 3G connection, rather than Wifi?
A. The application will download information from the Internet when panning and zooming around the maps and also when accessing the information panels. This will work over a 3G connection, but will impact your data usage and therefore may incur charges (especially when abroad) You should check with your provider before using the application in this manner to ensure that you do not incur unexpected charges.
Maps held in the 'World Factfile' and 'Atlas Library' are held on the device and therefore do not need to be downloaded. Viewing these will not require any data to be downloaded.
Q. How can I make sure that no data is downloaded?
A. The easiest way is to go to the settings section in the iPad, and then to activate 'Flight mode' This will ensure that no data is downloaded on either Wifi or 3G
